Condemned By Lies
CBL is set in a Final Fantasy-esque version of Earth called Artemis, which means yes, technological fun stuff, airships, the whole nine yards. Also, yes, it's another war OU, shush, you know me and my fightin's. Anyway, the world itself is mostly made up of a main continent and several smaller islands surrounding it, a rough map found here, I'll probably update with a new one once I'm not feeling lazy and actually draw it up myself. :'|
Here's a synopsis of landmarks that Subaru's probably mentioned at one point or another:
Omai: The former headquarters of the Returners, an island about 200 miles southeast of the main continent. The majority of the rebel camp was destroyed in a successful raid by the Federation, and the remnants of the resistance force were forced to scatter in order to survive.
Hell's Valley: A strategic landmark 50 miles west of the Federation capitol, Sanctorium. Subaru, Jess, and the remnants of the Returners had won a crucial battle here in order to be able to set up their new base of operations and plan the final stages of the uprising against the Federation.
Sanctorium: The capitol of the Federation. It “juts out of the ground like an annoying splinter in the ground”, according to Jess. A city of twisted metal and skyscrapers, it's hardly welcoming to anyone save for the higher-ups in the Federation. Lycaon's fortress stands in the middle of the city.
Now the city is slowly starting to be restored into something resembling civilization, with more “friendly-looking” accommodations, and Lycaon's fortress has been demolished in favor of a war memorial for all that had died during the war.
Mt. Kara: The closest Federation post to Omai on the main continent, this research facility was specifically placed to allow for the Returners to find out what exactly the OMEGA Project entailed. Although they didn't realize how much destruction would actually happen after Subaru and the others got there, it seemed...
-----------
Here's a brief history surrounding the war a couple decades prior to the main story:
The war started when several people, including Lycaon, Amara, and Jess's father Nate had effectively broken free from slavery and had banded together with others to overthrow the current government of the time. Afterward, they decided to choose Lycaon as their leader, but after a while, he seemed to be showing signs of becoming more like a dictator than an actual benevolent ruler.
During this time, Nate decided to leave and create an opposing party to prevent any further corruption. Unfortunately, it seemed as if Lycaon had become too drunk off his newfound power and tried to execute Nate and his party on grounds of treason.
The group was forced to flee the area and ended up on Omai, where they formed the first generation of the Returners.
It wasn't until Jess's generation of Returners with Subaru included in their ranks that they were finally able to overthrow the Federation – the world is still on the mend, but it is slowly recovering.
After Lycaon's regime was overthrown, Jess was wholeheartedly picked as the new leader – and although Subaru didn't want anything to do with the new government, he was chosen to be one of her advisors as well as part of her security detail.
I'm currently working on a timeline for the main events of the story (considering I actually want to write this thing again), and once that's up and ready, I'll be putting it up here.
MAIN CAST:

SUBARU KIRISHIMA Our wayward hero, Subaru wasn't even originally involved with the Returner/Federation war. In all honesty, he would've preferred to stay out of it all and continue his life doing street brawling. Funny how life changes like that. During the raid on his hometown, Subaru ends up gaining a contract with a pair of elementals - one fire, one ice - and is brought into the Returners originally as a refugee, but eventually wishing to follow in his older brother's footsteps and helping the rebels overthrow the Federation. PB: Takumi Saito |

JIN KIRISHIMA/OMEGA Subaru's older brother and a formerly high-ranking member of the Returners before his death. Unfortunately, afterward, his body was recovered by the Federation and used as their "pet project". Due to the experiments and the trauma he was forced through, he developed a split personality by the name of Omega, who was violent and drew upon the darker sides of Jin's personality in a constant attempt to take over as the dominant personality. He nearly succeeded, too - it was only through a lucky break when he fought Subaru in the end that Jin was able to break free and beg his brother to kill him to prevent that very thing from happening. PB: Ryo Nishikido |

JESSICA "JESS" ALGEHIRI The former leader of the Returners and now the leader of the new government, Jess is the big sister figure that Subaru never had, but he will admit that she's also one of the scariest people he's ever fucking met. Despite that, however, she's an exceptional leader and tactician, and does care deeply for the welfare of her subordinates. She took over the leadership position for the Returners after her father died, and has been doing her utmost in order to live up to what his expectations would've been. Armed with her rapier Virgillus and pretty damn handy with a sniper rifle, Jess is a formidable opponent on her own - but she knows the value of teamwork. PB: Teresa Palmer |

SKYLER ARASHI Skyler was a priestess, charged with protecting a sacred sword that was to prophesized to help "end a great tyranny" - and nearly was killed in the process of protecting the sword by Lycaon himself. She ended up joining the Returners in order to not only avenge her sisters-in-arms, but to also see for herself who would come to wield the weapon. Surprisingly enough, it was Skyler herself who would prove to be strong enough to not only wield the sword, but also proved to be a critical part of the Returners' victory at Sanctorium, saving Jess from Amara and her "pets" while Subaru was facing off against Lycaon and Omega. PB: Meisa Kuroki |

LUCAS "LUKE" TALBOT One of Jess's best sharpshooters, Luke is also the best friend of Jin and acts as a surrogate big brother to Subaru after their hometown is razed and Jin is killed. He helps the younger man find his place within the rebellion, offers to train him on how to shoot and channel the elementals attached to his guns (Jin taught him the basics on how to shoot, but Luke was the one that helped him get more into the "stylish" version of combat that he uses today), and even admits to him something that he never even told Jin: his massive crush on Jess. Of course, he never would act on it, especially with the war going on and all, but that never stopped Subaru, Skyler, or even Daisuke from trying to play matchmaker once in a while. PB: Sean Faris |

DAISUKE MONOU Daisuke is one of the few veteran members of the Returners, originally recruited by Jess's father Nate and eventually becoming one of his top generals. When he died, Jess then asked him to help guide her as a leader. Despite the fact that he is a major smartass, smokes like a goddamn chimney, and takes pride in harassing Subaru and the other new recruits, he's probably one of the strongest members of the group and best people to have on your side in a fight. He fights with a katana/shuriken combination as well as other shadow arts. PB: Daniel Henney |
AMARA Lycaon's right-hand woman and the one in charge of the project that resurrected Jin, Amara has a deep-seated grudge against the Returners, if only because she had originally fallen in love with Nate, Jess's father and the original leader of the Returners, but felt obligated to Lycaon for being the one to free them from slavery. As a result, she has been placed in charge of the Defense Department, and will stop at nothing to see the Returners begging for their lives. During the events of the story, she's killed by a tag-team of Skyler and Jess. PB: Glenn Close |

LYCAON The leader of the Federation, charismatic but also utterly insane, Lycaon is willing to do anything to maintain what he considers to be a "perfect utopia", including experimenting on both his underlings and eventually himself. (This also explains why he looks so young despite being in his 50's, technically.) He fights with a shotgun and sword, and is eventually killed by Subaru, while Luke and Daisuke keep the battlefield cleared for the two of them to fight. PB: Gaston Willig |
