history Subaru was born into a wealthy family in a small coastal town on the main continent of his homeworld [Artemis]. Although he was basically born with a silver spoon in his mouth, his parents always made sure that he didn't become too dependent on the family fortune. He has always been a social and happy individual, although his cocky nature and big mouth tend to get him into trouble from time to time. Eventually, he was taught self-defense by his older brother, Jin. This happened when he was 13. After his brother's lessons, Subaru started developing a passion for fighting and began entering streetfighting tournaments when he was 16. His family was appalled by his choice at first, but after seeing him in a fight, in his element, as it were, they started to change their minds. During this time, he had also started to get interested in gunmanship. Luckily for him, that would prove beneficial for him in the long run. His hometown was attacked shortly after his 19th birthday in a Federation raid. They had received intelligence that the main conspirator to assassinating Lycaon was staying there, and so the Federation saw it fit to try and take them down before things got too complicated. While evacuating the citizens out of the city, Subaru turned back just in time to see his brother killed by Lycaon himself. It turned out that Jin was the one that had headed the operation under the Returners’ approval. He nearly is gunned down by some foot soldiers while getting a young boy out of the gate when two figures intercepted the attack. Shortly after, Subaru blacked out, saved from a grisly death by Jin’s best friend, Leon. During his fitful sleep on the way back to Omai, Subaru was met by two women that introduced themselves as Fuyu and Natsuki. He woke up again at Omai, and filled in on what exactly happened when he had blacked out. To his dismay, he found out that Jin was indeed killed in action, but oddly enough, his body wasn’t recovered after the raid. He still tries to keep up his optimism despite the circumstances, especially after Jin's death. Because of the fact that Jin was close friends with Jessica Aleghiri, the young impromptu leader of the group after her father’s death a few years earlier, had taken to Subaru quickly, even letting him become a squad leader for a mission to see how he'd react in a situation after training for about six months. He ended up not being able to get his sniper to cooperate, and as punishment, has taken it upon himself to get information about the OMEGA Project on his own. To his dismay, however, he has found out that Jin had been and is being used as their main experiment. To add insult to injury, the Federation had somehow pinpointed (it was later found out that the same man who had screwed up the earlier mission was a double-agent) the location of the Returners' base and proceeded to attack without mercy. Leading the attack was none other than Jin himself, but...it wasn't exactly Jin, either. The aftermath of the attack left the Returners in a crippled state; however, they were able to get away before being completely obliterated. Subaru ended up under the tutelage of one of the senior members and also a founding member of the group- Daisuke Monou, one of the last monks that hadn't been eradicated by Lycaon's regime. He trained Subaru for several weeks along his apprentice; a sword priestess named Skyler Arashi. When the actual raid on Sanctorium occurred, Subaru had fought and defeated Lycaon in a long and bloody battle, only to find that Jin had been completely taken over by the alter-ego that his mind had created from the experiments – Omega. He forced himself forward despite the pain and saved Jess from being killed by him. This fight pushed Subaru to his limits, and with some time and unconscious assistance from Jin himself, Subaru finally defeated Omega, but Jin's mind had shattered so much that he was forced to take his brother's life in order to keep the others from getting hurt. He was about to head over to find the woman scientist that was responsible for turning his brother into what he was, but she was already dead – her own “projects” had turned against her. He had also finished (or so he thought) the long and bloody rivalry with a Federation soldier by the name of Zenius, who he had soundly defeated, but refused to kill. Five years after the defeat of the Federation, however, Subaru was killed in action when he had tried to save Jess from being attacked by Zenius. He had successfully taken him down, but had lost his own life in the process. However, this was only the beginning of a another set of adventures for him.
personality At his core, Subaru's a very compassionate and loyal person. He tries to do the best he can with his abilities, and despite everything that's happened to him, he is ever the eternal optimist, trying to find the best in every situation. He also tends to wear his heart on his sleeve, even though he's been warned time and time again that it will cause him more heartbreak than he would ever want to have. He's stubborn, likes to stick to his guns, and once he has an idea in his head, it is fairly difficult to stop him from going through with it; but he really does try to be the best person that he can be. He’s usually the one that tries to offer a smile and encouraging words to the other people around him, but he has his own hidden doubts. Although, he does try his hardest to hide them behind a smiling façade, trying to make sure that his friends and comrades don’t worry about him too much. He isn’t exempt from breaking down either, if the reveal of Jin as the “success story” of the OMEGA Project was any indication. He wants to see the best in people, and because of that, he tries to be very friendly and outgoing, hoping to get to know everyone around him; however, that sometimes ends up turning into him being a bother to people. He also can come off as a bit of a flirt as a result. Despite the fact that he’s a fairly kind and decent person, Subaru does have several glaring weaknesses in his personality. He has a bad habit of sometimes being too trusting, even to the point of naiveté. However, he does, like most people, learn from his mistakes. He also has a tendency to hold grudges against the people that make him angry enough to do so, and will not listen to reason if he believes that they are trying to hurt someone that he likes or even a random stranger. The boy’s kinda reckless like that. He’s unusually hostile toward scientists, if only because of him finding out what had been done to his brother by the Federation. He also has a tendency to become a martyr if he believes that dying will save someone. He’s not suicidal, but if he can save at least one life by giving up his own, he’ll have no regrets doing so. He’s fiercely dedicated and loyal to anyone he considers his friends, which, in all honesty, doesn’t take much. It’s more if that bond of trust stays in the long run that is any indication. Subaru doesn’t take betrayal lightly, beating himself up as well as vowing revenge on the turncoat that had allowed the assault on Omai to happen in the first place.
